The Beauty Of The Evening

My eyes cannot seem to rest
On anything,
Save your face

My hands have long been tireless
In searching for yours
Now with my lips no longer hiding
Your name,
My heart will arise
And call you blessed
As all I have despised
Has been laid to rest,
Overtaken by this exceeding grace
Which has my life unchained.

With a million prayers
Standing before me
I am counting the moments
Until your smile
Again knows my name.

My memories have come alive
Before my very eyes
This very night
My thoughts which fought surrender
With strength beyond my own
Surround me now
In this long-awaited hour,
Fulfilling the hope beyond hope
I have known.

The thoughts of your eyes
Can no longer be hidden
Behind your fear
Or from what we’ve been bidden.

I promise not to let your words fall
Or fear this proximity
Let us not hold any words asunder
But embrace the truth placed in me,
Finally found by you,
Lost in the wonder
Given by God
For I have not chosen the wounds,
I have chosen you.

What could I do
With every hopeful thought of you
But succumb to the same?

I have known our fate
Since before you could admit it
Even while fighting for the answers
To questions we once prohibited.

Were you only yesterday’s muse?

But what of my present desire,
What of this resident fire
So long uninterrupted?
Even the years
Have not been able to corrupt it.

I have often wondered
How one more glance
From you
Would affect my life.
And just when I would be granted
The permission
To begin our life’s dance
With you as my wife.

To speak of this longing,
To whisper your name,
Is to tell of the beauty of the evening.

To lift my voice,
To make known my choice,
Already made for me so long ago,
Is to wish
That if we know tomorrow,
May we know more of the same

Of your lips finding mine
Of time forbidding your absence
For you and I to be consumed
By the Presence
Better
Than a thousand lifetimes.

The beauty of this evening
Is the beauty of every evening,
To cease from dreaming
And touch the face
That only knows more meaning
With every passing day.

To hold the heart
More fragile than all my fears
To grasp the hand
That weighs more
Than all the lonely nights

And to bury the bottle of tears
In the soil of faith
Praying the distance
In our eyes
Will know its demise
For all our days

As we bid riddance
To all we have lacked,
From all we have held back

Since patience has finally finished
Her perfect work
Let us forsake the unknown
And failures we have shown
In favor of embracing memories
Yet waiting for their meaning
To come true

And I promise to ever cherish
The beauty of the evening
That will never perish
But only live in truth
Of the beauty no longer beyond me
But found in my arms,

Finally

And only

Forever

In you.
