Prayer For Faith’s Resurrection

Hurry and awaken!

It is time to rise

As the day is half-spent

And yet you slumber,

Giving excuses without number

When there is work to do,

Lest you die.

Do you not care

About your demise?

Will you not share

In what is true

Instead of lumbering

Through your days in lies,

Ignoring the proofs

Of His reality

Vaunting experiences

Too painful to remember

(And almost too powerful to ignore)

Over the ways

And One you were created for?

Jesus is your author

And disdains the shallows

You have succumbed to,

The muck and mire

Of doubt and delusion,

The force and fire

Of cries and confusion

That your prayers

Are nothing more

Than hollow and worthless

And efforts meaningless.

He writes no pointless stories

Unworthy of reading

Though with your bleeding

You stain draft after draft,

Page after page,

With choices unbecoming

Of His glory,

Unworthy of His Name

That belie His intentions

And delay His purposes

For thoughts and narratives of your own;

If there is no happy ending

It will be your fault alone.

O Lord resurrect this faith

That I may live again.

Let your faithfulness

Inspire and infuse my own

I know Your Name

Through faith in Your Name

Will make me strong

As the light of Your glory

Overtakes and overwhelms

The shadows of doubt

That have consumed me.

Grant me ears to hear Your Word

Instead of ignoring Your will

Like a book unopened.

May my faith, like a soldier,

March in lockstep

Matching Your stride

Instead of playing seek and hide

Shrinking from what I feel

And the wounds that refuse to heal.

By Thy grace

Let me stagger not at Your promises

Through unbelief

But walk beyond

What my eyes can see.

May I no more be faithless, but believing,

No longer foolish, but achieving,

Enduring hardness when need be

And enjoying Your presence anew,

Confident You will not fail

To complete Your work

Until the day of realized truth avails

Your return and my book’s flyleaf.
